One of my favorite readathons is here again! Since April was a very, very bad reading month, I am really hoping to get back on track with the help of Bout of Books. Sign up and read along with me! As usual, I don’t have a set TBR, or a TBR, for that matter. Right now I am reading A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab, and I plan to finish it. And then I’ll just see what I feel like reading. So many great books have come out recently! I am excited, are you?

I am almost done with A Darker Shade of Magic – I have less then 100 pages left. Though the start of the story (the first half of the book, let’s be honest) was very slow and confusing, the pace has finally picked up and I could barely put the book down (I did have to sleep and work and do lots of other stuff that is not reading).

Tuesday

155 pages! Now that’s more like it! On Tuesday I finished reading A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab, and gave it 3/5 stars. I liked it! I feel that it is a strong beginning to a potentially very interesting and intriguing series. I also started to ‘reread’ A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass on audiobook (also, I have a new appreciation for audiobooks, as I’ve managed to listen to 60+ pages while on my 7k run/doing dishes/doing my makeup and getting ready to go out!). I need to refresh my memory, because I want to start reading the sequel as soon as I receive it (I’ve pre-ordered it ages ago, but BookDepository only sent it out at the end of last week). All in all, I’am very happy with my progress!
Wednesday

- Books Finished: 1
I am very happy with my progress at the moment. On Wednesday I continued reading A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas and started A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab. I am enjoying both books, but rereading ACOTAR I am finding Feyre ridiculously annoying and dull. A Gathering of Shadows has started slow like the prequel, but I still like it – V.E. Schwab is an amazing storyteller.
Thursday

- Books Finished: 1
I’m slowly making my way through both A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas and A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab. I can’t believe the readathon is halfway through! I’m happy with the amount of pages I’m reading every day, but I wish I’d read more (#bookwormproblems) 😉 I’m enjoying the books I’m reading a lot, though! Fantasy, man. Although it’s only been a year since I’ve read ACOTAR, there are a lot of things I didn’t remember and some thing I didn’t catch before. And Feyre becomes less annoying towards the middle/end of the book, which I appreciate.
Friday

- Books Finished: 1
Usually, people have more free time toward the end of the week, but for me it’s the opposite – less and less reading time with every day. I don’t think I’ll finish both my current reads by the end of the week, but I’m still proud of myself for choosing reading over other activities during the readathon. And the further I get in ACOTAR, the more I want to read the sequel! A Gathering of Shadows is amazing, too. I’m very intrigued by the magic tournament in Red London.
Saturday

- Books Finished: 1
Saturday was very busy due to tons of fun, weekend stuff, so I’ve only read a few pages of A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab before falling asleep. On the bright side, if it weren’t for the readathon, I probably wouldn’t have read at all, so I’m happy! (:
Sunday

- Books Finished: 2
Yay! On the last day of Bout of Books 16.0 readathon I finished my reread of A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, and I couldn’t be happier about it, since I’m pretty sure the sequel will get here on Monday.
Wrap-up
During Bout of Books 16.0 readathon I read 874 pages and finished two books: A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab and A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I also started A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab. I am quite happy with my progress, even though this is the least I’ve ever read during Bout of Books. As always, I can’t wait for the next readathon! See ya then!

Great job! I started with a book that was slow also. Thank goodness we pushed through and got them done! Those are the books that can give your entire read a thon a hiccup. Great six words!

I can’t seem to “DNF” a book, however, lately I’ve been feeling guilt as my TBR is so huge that I don’t want to persevere with a book that is slow, however, you get a feel of a book that’s DNF or whether it’s just slow to get started, so far I’m yet to DNF a book that I’ve regretted, and at the same time I haven’t regretted a book that I thought to persevere through the slow parts at the start, so far I’ve been lucky LOL

I don’t think I’ve ever DNF’d a book, lol. I always finish them and I’ve never regretted that, either, because there are always parts/things/ideas I’ve enjoyed!

This is the first year that I’ve really been DNF’ing books. I have not had as much time to read so I feel that what reading time I do get is precious! I try not to but if it is a book that I’ve purchased, it’s easier.

It sounds like you’re making good progress with the readathon so far. Audiobooks do seem to be a great way to get in a little extra reading – I’ve been doing the same whilst doing housework etc.

I picked up A Gathering of Shadows immediately after finishing A Darker Shade of Magic, I can’t wait to find out what happens next!
I am enjoying ACOTAR as an audiobook a lot, though I don’t remember Feyre being this annoying on my first read 😉

Great job! I’ve also got a newish-fondness for audiobooks, I had tried it once but just didn’t get into it, strangely enough the narrator was the one and the same that I listened to the first time and didn’t like to the book I was so engaged in…I think audiobooks are one of those things that have to be an acquired taste.
The Selection by Kiera Cass was the first audiobook I really loved and couldn’t stop listening to. I also enjoyed Paper Towns by John Green.
Speaking of ACOTAR I’m also awaiting my copy of the sequel and was going to re-read it. I was a huge series re-reader, each time a new book in a series is released I would re-read all the previous books prior to that one after another again e.g. If it’s a trilogy, book 1 would be read 3 times, book 2 twice and book 3 once…is that strange?
Anyway, I felt bad re-reading books, scared that I won’t get through all my TBR in my lifetime so I’m now just re-reading the last few chapters of ACOTAR LOL

I see A Court of Thorns and Roses is sort of a beauty and the beast retelling, I recently read Heir of Fire and I believe that’s the one that was supposed to be a Cinderella retelling, if I’m not mistaken. Seems like she’s into fairy tales reimagined, I think that’s interesting. I didn’t read the Throne of Glass series but it seemed like a good one. I’ve never listened to audiobooks, I feel like I’ll be to distracted by other things to actually pay attention most of the time. Glad you’re having a good boutofbooks week.

I think the first book – Throne of Glass – was supposed to be a vague Cinderella retelling, since Celaena was at a work camp in the beginning, but then went on to live in a palace.
I also thought I’d be distracted, which is why I usually listen to them while working out or doing housework etc. Nothing much to be distracted by while doing those tasks. 🙂

Haha, I get that! When you’ve anticipated a book for some time and then get your hands on it, you just want to speed through it and know what happens! But, anyway, that’s what rereads are for 🙂
